Industry Advice Notice No. G2010/09
Exporting wood packaging treated with methyl bromide fumigation to European Union countries
This Industry Advice Notice is to provide clarification for the exportation of wood packaging to European Union (EU) Countries that has been treated in Australia in accordance with ISPM 15.
AQIS received notification that a ban on the use of methyl bromide within European Union countries as a fumigation treatment was effective from 18 March 2010. AQIS advises that this notification relates only to the practice of fumigating wood packaging with methyl bromide within the EU and does not affect the importation of wood packaging treated with methyl bromide into the EU from Australia.
ISPM 15 allows for the use of methyl bromide fumigation as a treatment for wood packaging, however, some countries may restrict or place a ban on the application of certain chemicals or treatments within their borders.
For additional information regarding exporting wood packaging and treatment with methyl bromide, refer to ‘The Australian Wood Packaging Certification Scheme for Export’
