Purpose
This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to notify stakeholders of updates to the Plant Exports Management System (PEMS).
Summary of changes and key points
- The following updates have been made to PEMS
- Automatic validation of ‘Accredited Farm Block Numbers’ and ‘Accredited Packhouse Numbers’ for Tasmanian cherries and apples for protocol markets.
- The trade description declarations have been updated for Grain and Plant Product and Quality System Recognition (QSR) inspections (refer to the Plant Exports Management System (PEMS) Authorised Officer User Guides).
- Re-inspection for logs fumigated at a site other than where the original inspection took place can now be recorded and the manual re-inspection record is no longer required. This applies to both grain and plant product inspection and bulk into ship hold inspection records.
- Re-inspection of logs fumigated within the vessel hold at a port, instead of at a registered establishment can now be recorded for bulk into ship hold inspections.
- The manual bulk into ships hold inspection record has also been updated to align with the PEMS changes and is available on the PEOM for use where an exception applies.
- All relevant PEMS user guides and the Work Instruction: Completing plant export inspection and treatment records have been updated.
- The following enhancements to AO application and appointment processes have been made to PEMS
- reminder emails will be issued to AOs whose bulk vessel inspection (BVI) pre-requisite/s are due to expire
- AOs are now able to update their email address.
Background
PEMS is an IT system that is used to capture and store information relating to the export of plants and plant products from Australia, including plant product export inspection, calibration results and transport units.

User responsibilities
All users of PEMS should clear their cache after each release to ensure they are using the latest version of PEMS, this will ensure that fewer issues are encountered.
All users of PEMS should familiarise themselves with what has changed and follow updated PEMS user guides.
