Purpose
This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise of changes to the trade description requirements for horticulture exports.
Summary of changes and key points
- The trade description policy set out in the Guideline: Inspection of horticulture for export now allows for an accredited property (packhouse) number to be on all packages instead of a registered establishment number.
- Exporters may choose whether to have an accredited property (packhouse) number or registered establishment number on the packaging.
- Registered establishments that are also an accredited property (packhouse) may choose to request a revocation of their establishment registration if no treatments or authorised officer inspections are being undertaken at the premises.
Background
- The previous version of the Guideline: Inspection of horticulture for export required the registered establishment number of where the goods were packed or inspected to be on all cartons or pallets as part of the trade description.
- Accredited properties were introduced in 2018 where protocol markets require packhouse approval. A packhouse accreditation number provides the same level of traceability as a registered establishment.
Exporter responsibilities
Exporters must ensure that horticulture export consignments meet the trade description requirements set out in the Guideline: Inspection of horticulture for export.
Authorised Officers (AOs) responsibilities
Authorised officers are required to confirm that trade description requirements have been meet as part of the inspection process.
