Purpose
This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise industry that exports of fresh cucurbit species produced in Queensland are temporarily suspended to New Zealand, following a positive detection of Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus (CGMMV) from Queensland’s CGMMV Pest Free Area.
Summary of changes and key points
- The New Zealand National Plant Protection Organisation, The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) will no longer recognise the current Pest Free Area for CGMMV in Queensland.
- Commodities affected are:
- Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)
- Cucumber (Cucumis sativus)
- Honeydew melon (Cucumis melo)
- Rock melon (Cucumis melo)
- Scallopini (Cucurbita pepo)
- Zucchini (Cucurbita pepo)
- Pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo)
- MICoR has been updated to reflect the suspension.
- Until the suspension is lifted, all fresh cucurbit consignments from Queensland will be held at New Zealand’s border with the option of re-export or destruction.
- The department is working closely with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries to have the suspension lifted.
