Purpose
This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise that the phytosanitary conditions for certain fruit exports to the European Union (EU) will change from 1 September 2019.
Summary of changes and key points
- From 1 September 2019, conditions for exports of the following fruit to the EU will change:
- Citrus (Citrus spp),
- Mangoes (Mangifera spp)
- Stonefruit (Prunus spp)
- Solanaceae.
- The below export pathways will be permitted:
- Citrus, mangoes and stonefruit sourced from a recognised fruit fly Pest Free Area (Tephritidae species –non-European).
- The below export pathways will not be permitted, as they are still under review by the EU:
- Citrus, mangoes and stonefruit that require a phytosanitary treatment
- Solanaceae sourced from a recognised area free of Bactericera cockerelli.
- The department’s Manual of Importing Country Requirements (MICoR) has been updated to reflect the changes. Any further changes will be advised via an Industry Advice Notice.
Exporters responsibilities
Exporters should continue to check MICoR for updates prior to planning for the export of citrus, stonefruit, mango and Solanaceae consignments to the EU.
Background
The EU have conducted a review of their current conditions under the Council Directive 2000/29/EC on protective measures against the introduction into the Community of organisms harmful to plants or plant products and against their spread within the Community.
The EU will be enforcing amended conditions under the Council Directive 2000/29/EC from 1 September 2019.
