Purpose
To advise the mango and lychee industries that applications are now open for growers to nominate orchards/blocks and packhouses for mango and lychee exports to the USA, and mango exports to China, Japan and Korea for the 2018–19 season.
Summary of changes and key points
- Orchards, packhouses and treatment facilities involved in the export of mangoes and lychees to the USA, and mangoes to China, Japan and Korea must register for the 2018–19 export season by completing the appropriate application form and submitting it to the Australian Mango Industry Association (AMIA) or the Australian Lychee Growers Association (ALGA) by the due date.
- Growers may divide their orchards into blocks. Each block must be clearly identified on the application form and on the orchard map by its physical address or geographic co-ordinates. Further detail on map and block requirements can be found on the application forms.
- Applications for orchard approval must list an approved crop monitor to be used for the 2018–19 export season.
- Crop monitors must successfully complete the online training course for mangoes or lychees prior to submission of the application. Online training closes 14 July 2018.
- Applications for mangoes and lychees will be forwarded by the AMIA and ALGA to the department.
- The department will conduct audits of entities during the audit period nominated on the application form. Audit dates must be selected carefully, as once the department has scheduled an audit, it may not be possible to reschedule.
- Orchards, packhouses and treatment facilities may also be audited by the National Plant Protection Organisations of USA, Japan, Korea and China following commencement of trade, in accordance with protocol conditions.
- Table 1 and Table 2 outline the approval requirements, application due dates and audit dates.
