Purpose
The purpose of this Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to provide further advice on Myanmar’s new import permit (import certificate for plants/ plant products) requirements following IAN 2017-37.
Summary of changes and key points
The Myanmar Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MoA) has advised the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources of the following:
- Treatments listed in the Treatment Recommendations section of the import permit are not required if the phytosanitary certificate endorses that the consignment is free from the listed quarantine specific pests.
- Import permits issued by Myanmar will be valid for three months from 1 October 2017.
MICOR Plants has been updated removing the mandatory treatment requirement for wheat to Myanmar as khapra beetle is known not to occur in Australia.
Background
The department was advised by the Myanmar MoA that an import permit is required for all plant and plant product imports into Myanmar as of 1 October 2017. The department sought further clarification from the Myanmar MoA once new import permits were received with changes to import requirements.
Exporter’s responsibilities
Exporters are responsible for ensuring that their consignments for export from Australia meet Myanmar’s import requirements.
