Purpose
This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to provide advice on the change in ergot tolerance for the export of wheat to Egypt.
Summary of changes and key points
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has received advice that the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Prof. Dr Essam Fayed, has announced a total ban (zero tolerance) on ergot in imported wheat.
On 28 August 2016 Minister Fayed announced that “wheat infected with ergot fungus is banned from entering the country” and the department is advised this is already being applied at the border.
Until further notice, all wheat exported to the Arab Republic of Egypt is subject to the following conditions:
- All consignments to be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate
- The restriction of a zero tolerance on ergot applies to all wheat consignments
This IAN rescinds IAN No. G2010/08.
