12 January 2015
Purpose
To advise industry that, until further notice, the Department of Agriculture is unable to issue certification of fresh fruit exports for export to Vietnam.
Background
The Vietnamese Government has stopped issuing import permits for fresh Australian fruit from 1 January 2015.
Key Points
The Vietnamese Government has sought advice regarding Australia’s management of Mediterranean fruit fly and has stopped issuing import permits for fresh Australian fruit.
As a consequence, the Department of Agriculture is currently unable to issue certification for fresh fruit exports to Vietnam.
Disruptions in the access for Australian fruit have been experienced from 1 January 2015 when existing imports permits expired.
Australian officials in the region are meeting as often as possible with Vietnamese counterparts to minimise trade disruptions and open trade opportunities again.
The Department of Agriculture is holding regular discussions with industry peak bodies. Industry will be informed of any significant changes in circumstance via future Industry Advice Notices.
Enquiries should be directed to your peak industry body.
