Purpose
To advise industry and Authorised Officers of new procedural resources for inspection of forest products that are now accessible on the Department of Agriculture website.
Background
The Plant Export Operations Manual (PEOM) and associated Work Instruction for forest product inspections provide procedural references for the inspection of forest products for export across Australia. The PEOM and Work Instructions are regularly reviewed to ensure alignment with the Export Control (Plants and Plant Products) Order 2011and to assist in achieving national consistency in service delivery. Both the PEOM and Work Instructions must be read in conjunction with Export Control (Plants and Plant Products) Order 2011.
Key Points
The following procedural resources will come into effect from Monday 12 May 2014:
- PEOM Volume 8B Commodity Inspections – Forest Products V1.0
- Work Instruction FOP3001, 3002 and 3003 Inspection of Forest Products V2.0
Summary of changes for procedural resources for inspection of forest products:
- Introduction of a forest products PEOM volume
- Inclusion of a pest list for forest products
- Inclusion of inspection procedures for packaged woodchips, wooden barrels and sandalwood products
- Inclusion of a bulk woodchips rejection procedure
From Monday 12 May 2014 Authorised Officer candidates will be trained and assessed against the above resources.
Exporter and Occupier of Registered Establishments Responsibilities
- Exporters and occupiers of registered establishments which export forest products should familiarise themselves with PEOM Volume 8B Commodity Inspections – Forest Products and Work Instruction FOP3001, 3002 and 3003 Inspection of Forest Products.
Authorised Officer Responsibilities
- Authorised Officers are to ensure they are familiar and comply with PEOM Volume 8B Commodity Inspections – Forest Products and Work Instruction FOP3001, 3002 and 3003 Inspection of Forest Products.
