Date issued: 30 October 2006
This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise that Korea intend to enhance enforcement of country of origin marking from 1 January 2007. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has received notification through the Agricultural Counsellor, Korea that enhanced enforcement of country of origin marking will come into effect on 1 January 2007.
Under the Republic of Korea’s Foreign Trade Act, imported articles require marking with country of origin marking.
The Korea Customs Service has advised the following:
- The Australian Inspected (AI) mark printed on plastic wrap is acceptable as country of origin marking;
- Stickers (eg. Product of Australia) and inserts are acceptable, provided they have indelible printing and cannot easily be removed, including when wet
- Any wrapped or packaged portions within a carton must have country of origin labelling (eg. nets of oranges), and
- Bulk packed product (eg. layered with plastic in the carton) does not require country of origin marking on internal packing materials.
Please ensure that when exporting to the Republic of Korea, these requirements are met.
The requirements are on the Korea Customs Service website.
Import labelling and marking requirements should also be discussed with importers.
