Date issued - 16 June 2006
The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has amended its regulations for the importation of small seed lots into the United States, effective 15 May 2006. Under the amended regulations small lots of seed can be imported without a phytosanitary certification provided the seed meets the conditions of the Small Seed Lots Program.
The new Small Lots of Seed Program refers to lots of up to 50 packets of seed, each packet containing not more than 50 seeds of 1 taxon (taxonomic category such as genus, species, cultivar, etc.), maximum weight not to exceed 10 grams of seed of 1 taxon per packet.
Under the Small Lots of Seed Program small lots of seed may be exported without the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service providing phytosanitary certification if the exporter has the correct import permit and has met all the requirements outlined by APHIS.
Details of the APHIS import requirements are outlined in the attached document. Word [39 kb]
