Purpose
This Market Access Advice replaces MAA 2024-14: Indonesia: Halal Law update #4 and provides an update on the implementation of Indonesia’s Law 33/2014 regarding Halal Product Assurance (the Halal Law) for exporters of Australian food and beverage products to Indonesia.
Key points
On 18 October 2024, the Indonesian Government published a revision to Regulation PP39/2021 regarding the organisation of Halal Product Guarantees. The revision grants an extension to the requirement for mandatory halal certification for imported food and beverage products under the Halal Law on a country-by-country basis. The department understands the length of delay for Australian products is yet to be determined.
The Australian Government will continue to engage with Indonesian authorities to better understand the impacts of the Halal Law on Australian industry. This includes timing of implementation of mandatory halal certification for Australian food and beverage products imported into Indonesia. The department will provide relevant updates once more information becomes available.
The Manual of Importing Country Requirements (Micor) will be updated to reflect this market access advice. The department encourages users of Micor to subscribe to the Micor update service for a commodity-specific email that lists changes that have been made in the preceding week.
The department encourages all exporters to work with their importer to ensure that product meets the current importing country requirements.
