The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (the department) has been advised by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and the Environment (DPIPWE), Tasmania, that mussel samples from Great Swanport East have returned elevated paralytic shellfish toxin (PST) levels.
As a result of the elevated biotoxin levels DPIPWE will temporarily close Great Swanport (East) Lease numbers: 8E, 49E, 50E, 51E for the harvesting of mussels only as of 00:01 Friday 28 July 2017.
DPIPWE will monitor and issue further notices to open or close areas as appropriate. The department will issue further Industry Advice Notices when this occurs.

Direction to export registered establishments and exporters
The department issues this direction under Order 75 of the Export Control (Fish and Fish products) Orders 2005.
To support the export of Tasmanian caught mussel products that are sourced from marine farms that are open for harvest, the following statement must be included on all Declarations of Compliance for all Tasmanian harvested mussel and mussel products:
‘This mussel/mussel product has been prepared from mussels that has been harvested from an open approved area’.
