2015-02 - Korea: Certification of fish by-products for human consumption

Update:  10 June 2015
Date of effect:  immediate
Previous advice: see MAA 2013-13

Background

As per Market Access Advice 2013-13, Korea has previously advised that frozen fish heads (covered by HS Code 0303), and frozen fish visceral by-products including edible roe, hard roe and squid nidamental glands (covered by HS Codes 0303, 0306 and 0307), cannot be exported to the Republic of Korea.

Key Change

The Australian Government Department of Agriculture has been advised that Korean authorities will consider allowing the export of frozen fish heads or frozen fish visceral by-products for human consumption.

Establishments that produce fish heads or frozen fish visceral by-products and wish to send these products to Korea will need to undergo an audit by Korean authorities.  Establishments which request to be a part of this audit will be liable for a share of the cost of the audit, the final amount of which will depend on the number of participants in the audit.

If your establishment produces these products and would like to be approved to export them to Korea, fill out the form at Attachment 1 and send it to Dairy Eggs Fish.

The HS codes for fish can be found at Chapter 3 - Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates.

NOTE: For queries regarding this notice, please contact Dairy Eggs Fish.
