Purpose
To notify manufacturers and exporters of amendments to the certification for live and non-viable oysters for Japan.
Summary of key points
- In order to meet the requirements of Japan’s updated Food Sanitation Law to be implemented from 1 June 2020, the department will implement amended export certification for live and non-viable oysters from 20 April 2020 onwards.
- The amendments are the result of negotiations between the department and Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW).
- The FX46J Certificate as to Condition, is currently used to export live and non-viable oysters for human consumption to Japan. From 20 April 2020 onwards, the FX46J will be required to be accompanied by the additional endorsement 5239, when exporting live and non-viable oysters for human consumption to Japan
Additional Endorsement 5239
The fish and fish products on this certificate were processed under sanitary conditions in accordance with the laws and regulations of Australia. The laws and regulations of Australia have been deemed to be equivalent to Japan’s Food Sanitation Law and the relevant regulations of Japan.
- Additional endorsement 5239 is only required for the export of live and non-viable oysters. Exports of live and non-viable bivalve molluscs such as mussels, pipis, clams, cockles will continue to use the FX46J Certificate as to Condition without additional endorsement 5329.
