Purpose
To notify exporters of Korea’s implementation of a revised MRL for Isoeugenol for fish (including eels) of 0.01mg/kg.
Summary of key points
Korea has implemented a revised MRL for Isoeugenol for fish (including eels) of 0.01mg/kg effective 1 July 2018. Isoeugenol is the active ingredient of AQUI-S Aquatic Anaesthetic.
The Australian MRL for Isoeugenol in fish is 100mg/kg.
The random sampling protocols for live fish and seafood consignments imported into Korea have not changed, however, live fish a consignments sampled which record an Isoeugenol level >0.01mg/kg will be deemed non-compliant with Korea’s import requirements by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). Background
The revised MRL for Isoeugenol has been implemented under Korea’s SPS notification G/SPS/N/Kor/556 Proposed Amendments to the Standards and Specifications for Foods. This notification included revision of MRLs for 39 pesticides in agricultural products and 18 veterinary drugs in foods, including of Isoeugenol for fish.
The Manual of Importing Country Requirements (MICoR) has been updated to reflect the changes.
