This market access advice (MAA) updates MAA1605 issued on 23 September 2016, regarding the requirements for the export of whole eggs in shell to the Republic of Korea (Korea).
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has been notified that, effective immediately, access has been granted for the export of whole eggs in shell to Korea. An export certificate has been finalised and is available to exporters who have been listed as a foreign establishment with Korean authorities. Access is for eggs laid by the species Gallus gallus which have been hatched and bred in Australia.
Establishment listing with Korea
To be considered eligible to export product to Korea, establishments are required to be export registered with the department and listed with Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). To gain listing as a foreign establishment with the MFDS establishments are required to submit a registration package through the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. This registration package consists of:
- a completed application form (refer Enclosure 1)
- documentation which verifies regular management and supervision of the establishment by the department (i.e. copy of the last audit report)
- a copy of the export–registration certificate issued by the department
- a copy of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) documents (e.g. Hazard Audit Table), including the process flow chart indicating critical control points.
Establishments may also be required to undergo an onsite audit by the MFDS to gain approval for export listing. This requirement is at the discretion of MFDS.

Processed egg products
At this point in time, Australia does not have approval to export processed egg products to Korea. Processed egg products are defined as those made by adding food or food additives to eggs, the contents of eggs or egg products, or by processing eggs by separating, drying, freezing, heating, fermenting, maturing, or processing the ingredients, including whole egg liquid, liquid yolk, liquid white, whole egg powder, yolk powder, egg white powder, and heat-formed products, salted egg and pidan.

Documentation Requirements
To export whole eggs in shell, use certificate EX46EG with endorsement number 5268. Exporters must ensure that two export certificates are provided, the duplicate copy usually retained by the exporter or importer must be presented to Korean authorities at the port of entry. The department recommends exporters retain a scanned copy or photocopy of the certificate for their records.
