Purpose
This Market Access Advice is to notify Industry on changes to the exportation of eggs and egg products to Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Summary of key points
- PNG’s National Agriculture Quarantine & Inspection Authority (NAQIA) issued a new Gazette notice (No. G182) on 17 March 2023, which issued further restrictions and prohibition on the importation of all uncooked and fresh poultry and poultry products.
- The department continues to engage with NAQIA to seek further clarification on this notice and associated restrictions.
- Until further advice is received from NAQIA, the department advises the following relating to the export of eggs and egg products to PNG:
- The department will issue certification for eligible consignments of fresh, frozen and chilled eggs and egg products, with a valid import permit.
- Exporters with a valid import permit are advised to follow the usual process to obtain a health certificate from the department.
- Each RFP will need to be authorised by the department.
- Exporters will be asked to make the following exporter’s declaration as part of the RFP:
- I declare that the products comply with Papua New Guinea’s import requirements and have a valid import permit (insert permit number) dated on (insert date).
- Although certification will be issued by the department, until the department receives advice from NAQIA, export of these products will be at the exporter’s own commercial risk.
- Exporters should be aware of the commercial risks associated with the export of these products and that the department may not be able to facilitate in the event of a detained consignment.
- Further advice will be provided to industry as it becomes available.
