This Market Access Advice replaces MAA1604 circulated on 14 November 2016, which advised of a possible early introduction of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Imported Food Guide’s (the Guide) certification requirements by Kuwait.
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has received official verbal advice that Kuwait is likely to delay the implementation of new certification arrangements until 1 April 2017. Although this revised date of implementation has not been confirmed, the department anticipates that Kuwait will align the implementation of the Guide’s requirements with the GCC Secretariat’s reported implementation timeline of April 2017.
The department continues to seek opportunities to progress negotiations on new certification, which address the Guide’s requirements, and secure a transition arrangement to ensure existing certification continues to be accepted by Kuwait officials until revised certification can be implemented.
The department will provide an update to this market access advice as soon as further information is available. This advice has been prepared in consultation with industry.
