Options for the Development of National Standards and Guidelines for Animal Welfare
AWTG 06-23 noted an update that a subgroup of the AWTG have developed a stakeholder engagement approach and a draft standards development framework as part of the staged approach to improvement. Initial engagement with key stakeholders is planned for early 2024.
Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Livestock at Processing Facilities and Establishments
AWTG 06-23 noted an update from Queensland that the substantial volume of feedback on the draft standards and guidelines provided by members of the Stakeholder Advisory Group and AWTG members continues to be assessed. AWTG discussed the approach to national regulation impact analysis.
Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Land Transport of Livestock - horses
AWTG 06-23 noted an update from Queensland that the Decision Regulatory Impact Statement has been assessed as compliant by the Australian Government Office of Impact Analysis. Planning for progression of the amended standards through AGSOC and AMM for national endorsement is underway.
Virtual Fencing Technology
AWTG 06-23 noted an update from the Commonwealth that the literature review has been published on the AWTG webpage. The virtual fencing subgroup is being reconvened to progress next steps.
Renewed Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS)
AWTG 06-23 noted an update from the Commonwealth on progress in renewing the AAWS, with work continuing to focus on developing a stakeholder engagement strategy. Stakeholder consultation will commence soon and the Commonwealth acknowledged the importance of working closely with states and territories on the renewal of the AAWS.
