Options for the Development of National Standards and Guidelines for Animal Welfare

Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Livestock at Processing Facilities and Establishments
AWTG 24-02 noted an update from Queensland that the review of stakeholder feedback of the draft standards is almost complete. Preparation for public consultation is underway. Work has commenced on procuring a consultant for regulation impact analysis.
Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Land Transport of Livestock - horses
AWTG 24-02 noted that the proposed amendments to the Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Land Transport of Livestock to improve the welfare of horses will be presented for endorsement to agricultural senior officials at the upcoming meeting in June. The amendments will then be brought to agriculture ministers for final endorsement.
Virtual Fencing Technology
AWTG 24-02 noted an update from the Commonwealth that an independent facilitator for the virtual fencing stakeholder reference group has been engaged. Meetings will commence shortly.
Renewed Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS)
AWTG 24-02 noted an update from the Commonwealth that all ministers have agreed to a joint leadership approach to renew AAWS and to develop a national statement on animal welfare. Broad stakeholder consultation on the AAWS has commenced, with a Have Your Say and submissions process open, and further avenues for engagement planned.
