Ministers’ Communique – Viticulture and Wine Sector Working Group Final Report
Ministers welcomed the final report of the Viticulture and Wine Sector Working Group and endorsed the report’s recommendations. Ministers noted the report’s focus on supporting industry to resolve or manage the following key issues:
- Addressing mental health challenges and financial distress
- Addressing barriers to exiting and diversifying
- Providing data and insights for better informed decision making
- Examining commercial contract arrangements across the grape and wine sector supply chain
- Boosting demand for Australian wine at home and overseas
- Improving industry leadership and long-term strategic direction supported by investment in research and development.
Ministers noted progress underway against several recommendations including building demand, better data for growers to make decisions and diversify, and investigating competition and regulatory issues.
Ministers expressed thanks to all growers, winemakers and other industry stakeholders who supported the Working Group in its consultations and deliberations.
Ministers agreed that the Working Group would continue to monitor progress against the recommendations, reporting back to the Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting on a regular basis.
