The National Management Group (NMG) confirmed at its meeting on 1 September 2023 that eradication of Varroa destructor will continue consistent with the agreed Response Plan.
NMG has endorsed a risk-based strategy for managing hives in the Euston, Balranald, Euroley and Nericon zones, which NSW has implemented through updated control orders over recent days following advice from the Consultative Committee on Emergency Plant Pests (CCEPP).
Where movement is unable to occur in the areas within 3km of an Infested Premise, euthanasia is commencing with infected hives, and will be conducted in a phased approach. Eligible commercial beekeepers directly impacted by the Response Plan will be able to access Owner Reimbursement Costs. Find further information on eligibility.
As the situation is evolving and more information is becoming available the NMG will meet again by the end of next week to consider further technical advice from the CCEPP on options for the continued response strategy.
