National Management Group Communiqué:
Banana freckle (Phyllosticta cavendishii) - 10 December 2024
The National Management Group (NMG) for banana freckle (Phyllosticta cavendishii) met on 10 December 2024 following advice from the Consultative Committee Emergency Plant Pests (CCEPP). The NMG noted that all Infected Premises in the Northern Territory (NT) have had all banana plants removed and agreed to transition the response to the next phase.
The NMG acknowledged the significant and sustained efforts of the NT Government and impacted industries over the eradication response phase. The NT community’s support and cooperation has enabled the response to reach this important milestone.
While a revised plan is being developed by the CCEPP, the NT will operate under an interim strategy to monitor and manage banana freckle. More information on response activities for banana freckle is available at nt.gov.au/industry/agriculture.
