In May we co-hosted the 2024 Quarantine Regulators Meeting (QRM) with Vietnam’s Plant Protection Department (PPD). The meeting took place in Vietnam and was attended by over 40 biosecurity agencies across the world.
It coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Australia and Vietnam and strengthened Australia's image as a global leader in managing biosecurity risks while supporting Australian exports to foreign markets.
The QRM is an annual forum that brings together biosecurity regulators to exchange information and explore opportunities to strengthen measures to mitigate biosecurity risk in a proactive way.
This year’s theme was ‘Regulation and Collaboration: the future of biosecurity’. It highlighted the importance of supporting safe trade regionally, and the role regulatory agencies have in identifying biosecurity treatment non-compliance.
The keynote address was delivered by our First Assistant Secretary Anna Brezzo. She reflected on the challenges faced over recent years, emphasised the importance of working together and connecting globally to manage biosecurity risks effectively.
“The QRM stands alone in its mission serving as the premier international forum dedicated to considering and addressing biosecurity risk management across trade pathways,” said Anna.
“It offers a vital platform for advancing Australia’s biosecurity agenda with our crucial trading partners and the global community.”
