Australia remains free of many severe animal diseases.
To help veterinarians build their preparedness skills, we’ve commissioned the European Commission for the Control of foot-and-mouth disease (EuFMD) to provide training on how to respond to diseases such as FMD, lumpy skin disease and sheep and goat pox viruses.
The course offers guidance on disease signs and symptoms. Workshop exercises provide participants with an opportunity to practice prevention and control measures. The EuFMD also provides advice on how to develop local response measures.
More than 340 vets, industry and government staff have completed the course, forming a network of Australians ready to respond to potential animal disease incursions. The course will be offered again in 2024. Stay tuned.
