We are excited to launch our new Junior Biosecurity Officer program for kids.
The program is an activity-based education program designed to raise awareness among primary-school age children and educate them on basic biosecurity concepts in a fun and interactive way.
Through the program, children are encouraged to watch videos and complete a range of activities. They will learn why it is important to look out for pests and diseases in food, gifts, mail, luggage, and other items. By completing the program, they will become biosecurity champions and have the knowledge to help protect Australia’s biosecurity system.
The program is in its early stages and will continue to evolve. It will focus predominantly on the Australian Government’s role in relation to biosecurity and biosecurity activities most relevant to children and their families – such as travelling overseas, receiving items from overseas either via mail or through online shopping, and what to do to if they notice something unusual in their backyard.
We recently partnered with Qantas during the school holidays for a trial in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane airports where staff at international lounges handed out activity packs to school-age children.
Visit agriculture.gov.au/JBO for more information, including videos and an activity for your child to explore. But keep an eye out, we have more games and activities on the way.
